Plot Summary
Danish is a mute boy from Igatpuri who dreams of becoming a Bollywood actor. He runs away from his home and reaches Mumbai, where he tries to enter the film city. He is caught by the security guards and beaten up, but is rescued by Akshara (Akshara Haasan), an assistant director. Akshara takes pity on him and decides to help him fulfill his dream. She takes him to Finland, where a doctor agrees to implant a device in his throat that can transmit voice from another person.
Akshara then searches for a suitable voice donor for Danish. She comes across Amitabh Sinha, a failed actor who lives as an alcoholic recluse. Amitabh has a deep and powerful voice, but was rejected by the film industry for his unconventional looks. Akshara convinces him to lend his voice to Danish, who agrees on the condition that he will remain anonymous and control the dialogues.
Danish and Amitabh form a successful partnership, and Danish becomes Shamitabh, a superstar in Bollywood. However, their success also brings ego clashes and jealousy between them. Amitabh feels that he is not getting enough credit for his voice, while Danish feels that he is the real star with his acting skills. They start arguing over every scene and dialogue, and their relationship deteriorates. Akshara tries to mediate between them, but fails.
One day, Amitabh gets drunk and reveals his identity to the media, claiming that he is the real Shamitabh. The news shocks everyone, including Danish, who feels betrayed by Amitabh. He decides to break away from him and prove himself as an actor without his voice. He signs a silent film with a renowned director, but fails miserably as he cannot emote without Amitabh's voice.
Amitabh also realizes his mistake and regrets hurting Danish. He tries to reconcile with him, but Danish refuses to forgive him. Akshara then takes them to a school for deaf and mute children, where she shows them how they have inspired many kids with their talent. She tells them that they are incomplete without each other, and that they need to work as a team.
Danish and Amitabh finally bury their hatchet and hug each other. They decide to work together again as Shamitabh. However, on their way back to Mumbai, they meet with a fatal car accident. Amitabh dies on the spot, while Danish survives with severe injuries. He loses his voice device and becomes mute again.
The film ends with a tribute to Amitabh's voice, as various clips of Shamitabh's movies are shown with his voice-over.

'Shamitabh' swings between being intelligent and banal, the latter more so when it begins worshipping at the altar of the nations most beloved voice.

Shamitabh is definitely a one-time watch for its efforts to stand out in the industry that thrives on remakes and haphazard biopics. The film is a treat for all Amitabh Bachchan as well as Dhanush fans since the film in its true sense is a mixture of their solid excellence.
